The Mission for Senior Adults at Alta Woods is the same as the Mission for the church. We seek to lead Senior Adults in Worship, Bible Study, Prayer, Evangelism, Ministry and Fellowship. We have Bible Study groups, Mission/Evangelism groups, Ministry groups, as well as special times of Prayer, Fellowship and Worship. We have organized a Senior Adult Leadership Team (SALT) that discusses, plans, coordinates and evaluates our many activities. We have a lot of regular monthly activities and frequently schedule other activities as interest dictates. Listed below are some of our regular activities that involve Senior Adults:

AWBC Seniors

Senior Adult Bible study classes meet Sundays at 9:15 a.m. There are several Senior Adult Departments and many Senior Adult classes. For those who cannot physically attend, we have a Telephone Sunday School Class. The use of the church phone and individual cell phones allow us to call several members at 9:30 on Sunday mornings, turn on the speaker feature and teach the lesson. This is available to anyone. Teachers rotate the teaching responsibility.

Senior Adult Discipleship group meets Sunday afternoons one hour before Evening Worship.

Senior Adult Ministry includes visits to members who cannot get out except for Doctor appointments. Church members visit, take Christian reading material and seasonally a gift bag reminding those visited they are loved and prayed for often. Wednesday meals are also delivered free of charge to some.

Wednesdays at 11 AM we have Prayer Service especially for those who do not see well enough to get out at night, although anyone may attend.

FIRST Tuesdays are called Super Tuesdays. Here’s why...

9:30 - Adults on Mission Meeting is scheduled for men and women who are interested in finding out what is going on in our Church Mission program, Association of SBC Churches, our Mississippi Baptist Mission Program and Southern Baptist Missions, which include Mission projects across North America and around the world.

11:00 a.m. - Joy Choir (Senior Choir) meets every Tuesday. This Choir goes to either a Retirement Center, Adult Day Care Center or Nursing Home each month to share the message of Jesus in song. The Choir takes a break in the summer.

Noon - Cheerful Hearts - Senior Adult Fellowship Luncheon. Have entertainment or guest speaker and wonderful meal $5 - reservations may be made through the church office, 372-8651 or online here.

FOURTH Tuesday each month - Noon - Roundtable Mission Book Review and luncheon. This is another event that many people attend for the food, fellowship and inspiration. Reservations may be made through the church office, 372-8651 or online here.

Day trips to various places in and around Jackson are scheduled as interest dictates. Some are to mission points or just for fellowship.

Ladies Senior Adults have exercise groups which meet several times weekly for walking or aerobics.

One morning a month is designed simply for Fun and Fellowship. Members bring table games and their lunch and enjoy a relaxed time together.

Our Senior Adults actively participate in mission trips here in Mississippi, across the United States, and many foreign countries. Join us!
