Here in Mississippi we have a saying, "It's summer, and the livin' is easy."  Don't we wish!  Actually, that saying may have come from the days before air conditioning when you really couldn't do much here in the Deep South in the summer because of the intense heat.  When it is 95 in early June, then you know you have a heat problem.  When I was a child, we would find a shade tree or we would curl up next to a window fan and get real quiet and still.  That was one way of coping with the heat.

 

Air conditioning has actually revolutionized the way we live down here in the summer time.  Now, we have activities and ministries which carry on just as at other times.  If you will peruse our web site, you will see that we will be taking mission trips this summer.  We will be having student activities.  We will continue our ministries to nursing homes, retirement communities, apartment complexes, and to individuals whom we meet in the normal course of every day life.

 

Summer is a good time to take stock of one's spiritual life.  How are you and God getting along these days?  Is it time to revisit that relationship again?  Perhaps for the first time in many years?  He is like the father mentioned in Luke 15, who welcomed home with open arms his prodigal son even after the boy had embarrassed his father and made a mess of his life.

 

Summer is a good time for a family reunion.  These important, primary relationships should  not be neglected.  We all need family, and family needs us.  Alta Woods Baptist Church is a big, extended family.  We urge and encourage you, if you do not have a spiritual family, to find a church close to the place where you live and get in touch with some new Christian brothers and sisters who can become your new spiritual family.  Perhaps something that you see here on this web site can encourage you in this direction.  Thanks for visiting with us.
